Mistake 5: Choosing a Coating That Has More Features than You Need

choosing a coating

By Les Yoder, Account Executive

While we don’t think you should choose a coating based on price alone, we want you to be as profitable as possible. That means avoiding spending money on coatings that deliver more bells and whistles than your project requires.

Potential risks

You want to deliver an end product that is high quality and competitive in the market. If you waste money choosing a coating that’s delivering more bang for your buck than you need, you are jeopardizing your competitive edge.

How to prevent this mistake

It’s all about finding the right fit. Even a premium product might not be the best-performing coating for your application. The key to paring down your coating choices (or other components involved in your production process) is developing detailed specifications. Part of this process will probably include testing. Ask your coating vendor to carry out testing for durability, color or other qualities to ensure you are getting exactly what you need — no more, no less.

How Accessa partners

While many of our recommendations and pieces of advice are based on our experience, we also invest in research and development to customize specialty products to give customers exactly what they need to fabricate an industrial part, piece of furniture or other product. If a client has an unusual request, such as a need for a high level of scratch resistance or particular antimicrobial properties, we will find a coating that meets those exact specs.
